Step-by-Step Guide: Setting up Reordering Rules in Odoo 16

1. Configure your products for reordering

Before adding a reordering rule to products, they need to be configured in a specific  manner.

To do this, follow these steps:

• Go to the Inventory, Manufacturing, Purchase, or Sales module.
• Navigate to Products and click on Products.
• Click on Create to make a new product. Alternatively, find an existing product in the database and click on it to access its product form.

Once you are on the product form, do the following:

• Enable reordering by checking the “Can be Purchased” option located below the Product Name field.
• Finally, set the Product Type to “Storable Product” under the General Information tab.

2. Add a reordering rule to a product

To add a reordering rule to a product, follow these steps:

• Once your your product is configured correctly, you will now see a tab called “Reordering Rules” at the top. Click on it.

• On the Reordering Rules dashboard, click on “Create” to add a new rule.

• Configure the reordering rule by defining the following fields:

• “Location“: Specify where the ordered quantities should be stored once they are received and entered into stock.
• “Min Quantity“: Set the minimum threshold for the reordering rule.
• “Max Quantity“: Set the maximum threshold. If the stock on hand falls below the minimum quantity, a purchase order will be created to replenish it up to the maximum quantity.

Example: If Min Quantity is set to 5 and Max Quantity is set to 25, and the stock on hand falls to four, a purchase order will be created for 21 units of the product.

• “Multiple Quantity“: Configure this if you want products to be ordered in batches of a certain quantity. Depending on the number entered, a purchase order may exceed the Max Quantity.

Example: If Max Quantity is set to 100, but Multiple Quantity is set to order the product in batches of 200, a purchase order will be created for 200 units of the product.

• “UoM” (Unit of Measure): Specify the unit of measurement for ordering the quantity. For discrete products, set it to “Units.” For non-discrete products like water or bricks, you can set it to units of measurement like Volume or Weight.

• Additionally, you can use filters, group by options, or the triple-dotted menu to search for specific reordering rules or organize them according to your preferences.
