What to expect from Odoo 19

What did Odoo reveal about Odoo 19 so far?

New Odoo versions are revealed yearly at Odoo Experience – an event that brings together the global partner network and Odoo community in Brussels. For the past couple years, the OXP has happened in November and October. However, Odoo Experience 2025 dates have just been announced for September 18-20th – which means that we’ll be getting a first look at Odoo 19 even sooner than expected!

Last year’s Odoo Experience was focused on Odoo 18 and how it came to optimise user experience, making business operations smoother and smarter. Still, we managed to catch a sneak peek of the Odoo 19 roadmap, that included:

• Calendar reminders
• Delivery confirmation
• Audio messages 

These little revelations could indicate that Odoo 19 will focus more on automation, better integration of communication tools, and smoother workflows.

The new Odoo 18.1 release gives us clues about Odoo 19 

The Odoo 18.1 release introduced several new features, that will also be included in the next big version release and that could be setting the stage for bigger improvements in Odoo 19:

General user experience

Odoo 18.1 introduced small but effective usability changes:

• ​Favourite filters can now be edited directly from the search panel
• ​A new “Select All” button makes bulk actions easier on mobile
• ​Users can now open links in new tabs with CTRL + Click or middle-click

These updates point to further usability refinements in Odoo 19, making workflows faster and more seamless across apps.

Accounting improvements

Odoo 19 could be pushing accounting automation further based on the latest 18.1 update:

• ​Bank transaction previews now let users see attached PDFs without extra clicks
• ​A charge bearer option for ISO-compliant payments gives more flexibility over transaction fees.
• ​Invoice analysis reports now include total amounts in company currency for clearer financial tracking.

Localised accounting & compliance

Odoo 18.1 expanded compliance tools across multiple countries:

• ​Peppol invoicing support, along with integrated tax reporting, was added for various countries
• ​The EU VAT system was adjusted to exclude territories that don’t follow standard VAT rules.

These updates suggest Odoo 19 will keep refining tax and localisation features to be increasingly more encompassing.

Helpdesk & customer communication

Odoo 18.1 refined communication tools with updates to improve response efficiency and ensure customers reach the right agent faster: 

• ​Added limiting call option for how many conversations an operator can handle
• ​Introduced chat forwarding based on expertise
• ​Helpdesk tickets can now be assigned based on tags, improving request management
• ​WhatsApp follow-ups were also added for Accounting, hinting at potential messaging expansion in CRM or Helpdesk

Inventory, warehouse & manufacturing

Odoo 18.1 merged packaging and units of measure into a simplified model, removing UoM categories to make stock tracking easier. 

Component moves were also made fully compatible with barcode scanning.

These updates suggest Odoo 19 could further optimise stock transfers, barcode & warehouse workflows, leading to more flexible inventory handling and logistics.

HR & Payroll

Odoo 18.1 brought a range of new features to HR, Payroll & Time Off:

• ​Birthday field lets employees display their birth date without the year
• ​Country field for time-off types makes it easier to apply localised leave policies
• ​Payroll master report and a better salary rule parameter view
• ​​Unapproved leaves no longer prevent payslip generation

Odoo 18.1 brought a range of new features to HR, Payroll & Time Off:

• ​Automatic slot creation at set intervals makes appointment handling easier 
• ​Appointments now automatically create field service tasks upon confirmation
• ​Details are now automatically included in created field service tasks, reducing manual data entry.

This could mean a bigger effort in Odoo 19 toward cross-app automation, possibly linking with Projects or HR scheduling

Marketing & events

New event triggers allow automated messages before an event ends or after it starts, keeping attendees engaged. 

For websites, Odoo 18.1 also improved 404 page design, updated alert snippets, multi-template snippet selection, and improved the mobile mega menu. 

Odoo 19 could bring more automation for lead nurturing and event follow-ups, and improvements to how users can interact with web content.

Point of Sale & retail

Odoo 18.1 introduced various PoS improvements:

• ​Default ZPL formats for receipts
• ​Minimal rights profile for PoS employees
• ​Predefined order presets for deliveries and pickups. 

These updates simplify order processing, and Odoo 19 could continue making PoS workflows smoother for businesses handling high transaction volumes.

Odoo 18.1 introduced an irregularity map to detect formula inconsistencies, new radar & geo charts, and better sorting for pivot tables.

With Odoo 18.1, customers choosing in-store pickup can now save unavailable products to their wishlist instead of being blocked at checkout. 

This could indicate further improvements in Odoo 19 for checkout flows and inventory handling for eCommerce.

Users can now copy-paste fields within Sign templates, preview layouts before sending, and auto-complete linked fields, making contract signing smoother. 

These updates reduce manual steps, and Odoo 19 may improve document handling further by simplifying approvals and record-keeping.

Odoo 18.1 removed the Subscriptions app’s dependency on automation rules, giving users more control. 

This change makes managing recurring payments more flexible, and Odoo 19 could expand billing customisation even further.

Odoo 18.1 introduced a critical path view in the Gantt chart, helping teams track key project dependencies and deadlines. It highlights tasks that directly affect timelines, making planning more efficient.
